Theory for Singers: Part I

A course specifically designed for singers, both soloists and choristers. Music theory is a complex system with lots of details. These courses have been created for singers to develop the skills they specifically need to read music, sight sing, and score study. This is not your average theory course!

The Part I (Beginner) course focuses on note identification, including flats and sharps; key signature identification; an introduction to solfege and sight singing; and rhythms in duple meter.  

The Part I (Beginner) course might be for you if: 

  • You are new to reading music (or you're feeling rusty!) 

  • You're not sure what key signatures are or what they do 

Included in this course:

  • Five video modules, with access for six months

  • Lifetime access to a PDF theory workbook created and designed by Deirdre that aligns with the video modules

  • Option to purchase package in treble clef or bass clef 

Theory for Singers: Part II

A course specifically designed for singers, both soloists and choristers. Music theory is a complex system with lots of details. These courses have been created for singers to develop the skills they specifically need to read music, sight sing, and score study. This is not your average theory course!

The Part II (Intermediate) course provides a review of the material from Part I and focuses on sight singing in major keys; identification of major triads and inversions; and rhythms in compound meter.  

The Part II (Intermediate) course might be for you if: 

  • You are comfortable reading music (ie. you know the notes on the staff) 

  • You can identify most key signatures but you're not sure what their importance is for singers

  • Option to purchase package in treble clef or bass clef 

Theory for Singers: Part III

A course specifically designed for singers, both soloists and choristers. Music theory is a complex system with lots of details. These courses have been created for singers to develop the skills they specifically need to read music, sight sing, and score study. This is not your average theory course!

The Part III (Advanced) course provides a review of the material from Parts I & II and focuses on sight singing in minor keys; chord identification and inversions; syncopated rhythms; and modulation/key changes. 

The Part III (Advanced) course might be for you if: 

  • You are a confident music reader, including key signatures

  • You'd like to develop your sight-reading and score study skills

Included in this course:

  • Five video modules, with access for six months

  • Lifetime access to a PDF theory workbook created and designed by Deirdre that aligns with the video modules

  • Option to purchase package in treble clef or bass clef
